Reaching the SUMMIT
When it comes to project management, Prince 2® has undoubtedly become the de facto project management standard for both public and private sector projects globally.
However, we have found that it does not cover every base when it comes to software development projects. Therefore, we’ve used our in-depth expertise to help ‘fill the gap’.
Peak performance
Using Prince 2® as a framework, we’ve developed our own methodology - SUMMIT (Symbiosys Business Solutions’ Unified Management Method for Information Technology). Designed to work equally well in either a large or small software development project, SUMMIT delivers peak performance by ensuring each project:
- Contains the agreed functionality
- Is delivered on time
- Remains within budget
- Is free from defects
- Delivers the target benefits
SUMMIT helps deliver a controlled and managed process which is scaleable, appropriate and applicable to all sizes of software projects. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the change in business performance that is required, documents why the project should be undertaken and defines how the software project will contribute to improved business performance.
Feasibility and benefits
The SUMMIT process gives an accurate estimate of what each project will cost, updated at the end of each of the first three stages: Feasibility and Business Benefits, Requirements Development, and Architecture. It also incorporates comprehensive control of the project via documented check-points, ‘Go No/Go’ decision points and excellent management reporting.
Our focus on agreeing and documenting what should be delivered before any code is written ultimately helps you, because the earlier requirements mismatches or design errors are spotted the less time and cost is required to deal with them.
