Enterprise Content Management
The
success of your organisation relies heavily on the skills and expertise of
your people, and the ability to manage information across organisational and
geographical boundaries.
This information is abundant and within your organisation
may exist in corporate file servers, desktop PCs, laptops and filing cabinets.
The problem is finding the right information quickly when you need it - we
call it the 'Information Black Hole'.
At Symbiosys Business Solutions, we specialise in helping organisations get out of this hole. We know there are numerous enterprise content management (ECM), document management and knowledge management software vendors out there who provide ‘siloed’ approaches to what is essentially an enterprise-wide issue.
Having scoured the market we can recommend and provide full consulting and implementation services for leading ECM solutions, Microsoft SharePoint and KnowledgeWorker® from Datum International.
Microsoft SharePoint
Microsoft SharePoint products and technologies provide enterprise-scale capabilities to meet business-critical needs, such as managing content and business processes, simplifying how people find and share information across boundaries, and enabling better informed decisions.
At Symbiosys Business Solutions we can help organisations use the combined collaboration features of Windows SharePoint Services (WSS 3.0) and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) to help their users create, manage, and easily build their own SharePoint sites.
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 is a versatile technology that organisations and business units of all sizes can use to increase the efficiency of business processes and improve team productivity. With tools for collaboration that help people stay connected across organisational and geographic boundaries, WSS 3.0 gives people access to information they need.
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 provides a single, integrated location where employees can efficiently find organizational resources, access corporate knowledge, and leverage business insight to make better-informed decisions.
We can provide advice and help on which edition of MOSS 2007 to select and implement. The Standard Edition license allows you to access the core capabilities of Office SharePoint Servers to meet your information management needs. In addition to the Standard Edition organisations can purchase an Enterprise Edition license which allows them to use the Line of Business data integration and search, Business Intelligence including performance management dashboard and Web-based spreadsheets, and electronic forms.
How WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 relate
If you are wondering how WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 relate, MOSS 2007 is built on the technology foundation of WSS 3.0 and indeed relies on it to provide a consistent, familiar framework for lists and libraries, site administration, and site customisation.
MOSS 2007 utilises the core WSS framework, and extends it in such a way that is beneficial to larger companies, enterprise deployments, and portal developments. Additional features and enhancements include:
Business Data Catalogue/Business Data Search - possibly one of the most important features of MOSS 2007, this allows you to extend SharePoint data by integrating Business Data from external sources such as Web Services or Relational Databases. This enables you to do things such as display SAP data within a SharePoint portal.
Document Workflow - a powerful feature whereby users can use “included in the box" workflows such as collecting feedback and performing a review of a document, or create workflows around specific types of documents such as whitepapers, magazine articles, etc.
Enterprise search - The MOSS 2007 search engine is a powerful enterprise search engine with a relevance algorithm and is able to crawl content from multiple sites within an enterprise, as well as non-SharePoint web sites.
Knowledge Network/People Search - MOSS 2007 provides an enhanced "people search" tool that can be used to mine hidden relationship data and show people related to knowledge.
My Site – MOSS 2007 provides the ability for individual users of a portal to create their own "My Site", which is essentially a home page/landing page designed to provide a starting point through which to access content that each user owns and content that might be relevant to them.
SBS can advise on other differences between WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 and work with organisations through the process of upgrading to an enhanced MOSS 2007 environment.
KnowledgeWorker®
KnowledgeWorker® provides the ability to capture, store, index, classify and quickly search for business-critical information and other digital assets without changing the way you work, and by using the tools you already use on your desktop.
Implementation and integration
Using our extensive skills in information management, we can ensure a smooth and seamless integration of WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 and KnowledgeWorker® within your organisation, helping you to harness the power of these solutions to maximise information, content and knowledge sharing online across your organisation.
